THE VOICES OF IMMIGRATION IN AMERICA & PRESIDENT QUOTE

THE VOICES OF IMMIGRATION IN AMERICA

Summary:
The United States has always been a country of immigration. The people in the videos talk about how important and good immigration is. America is a human capital, they need people to work with science, business and etc. Obama gives hope to the "Dreamers". They are productive members of society, brought here as young children, who grew up in their communities and became American in every way but on paper

PRESIDENT QUOTE:

“Our beautiful America was built by a nation of strangers. From a hundred different places or more they have poured forth into an empty land, joining and blending in one mighty and irresistible tide. The land flourished because it was fed from so many sources — because it was nourished by so many cultures and traditions and peoples.”

Lyndon B. Johnson October 2, 1965

I chose this quote by Lyndon B. Johnson because I like it very much. I like the way he explains how “The Great America” was made. The country is still standing strong because of its history of many cultures from different generation.

Obama's speach: illegal immigration

Listen to this speach by Obama and answear following questions:

a)    What is he going to do?
First, he will build their progress at the border with additional resources for their law enforcement personnel so that they can stem the flow of illegal crossings, and speed the return of those who do cross over. Second, he want to make it easier and faster for high-skilled immigrants, graduates, and entrepreneurs to stay and contribute to their economy, as so many business leaders have proposed.Third, he will take steps to deal responsibly with the millions of undocumented immigrants who already live in their country.

b)    How can he do this without Congress's blessing?
As President, he have to take some choices with or without Congress’s blessing

c)    What is an American according to Obama?
What makes you an American is their shared commitment to an ideal -– that all of them are created equal, and all of them have the chance to make of their lives what they will.

d)    What does Obama urge the House of Representatives to do?
Obama urges the House of Representatives to allow that kind of bill a simple yes-or-no vote, it would have passed with support from both parties, and today it would be the law. But for a year and a half now, Republican leaders in the House have refused to allow that simple vote.

e)    What is your stand to the issue, do you think Congress will pass the bill soon? Give reasons for your opinion.
The new system sounds very good and I’m sure many people will be pleased if it comes true. I really hope Congress will pass the bill, or else things can get expensive.

Where Did All the Money Go?

Task 8c p.169
c) Find the article "Where Did All the Money Go?" on our website. Write a summary of the main points of the article.

The article is about the world economy, and how production, trade and investment has decreased the last couple of years, it shows how Poverty and unemployment has increased.
Three years ago the global, free market consumer economy was booming. Most Countries in the world took active part in it.

Today things are not going so good, like they used to.
The 1980s, the years of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and President Ronald Reagan, things was going much better. But in the view many of the government regulations that had been put in
place during the Great Depression and after the Second World War, they were standing in the way
of economic growth and progress.

Early in the 21st century, regulation of the commercial banks was
relaxed. A whole new set of financial institutions has entered the
arena – financial investment houses on Wall Street with names like Bear Stearns and
Lehman Brother.

By 2007 the financial actors all over the world had invested hundreds of billions – perhaps
trillions – of dollars in American mortgages. Everyone was betting
on better times. But it is in the nature of the free market that there comes a point when the
demand for a product is completely filled.

The housing market came to that point. Every
possible line of credit to buy houses had been used up and abruptly there was a greater
supply of houses than there was a demand for them. Then the price of houses in the United

States began to fall.

John wants to change the world through the force of example, while Jenny wants to change it through protest. Which of these methods do you think is most effective, and why?

I think both of the methods are effective because both John and Jenny’s opinion are similar.

Jenny wants to use protesting and change politics, so the people above them are afraid. They want to protest and change the system and not just for one person, but also for everyone around the globe. Jenny thinks is smarter to live life simply by using less of things that is not good for the globe.

And John thinks is better to work with nature than against it. He also thinks people could live life simple.

Dalen

The 5th of November, we had a English subject day. We had a presentation about a large local business with foucus on the use of english and international. Me, Andrea and Lars Henrik had a presantation about The Lid Jarnindustri in Dale.

The Lid jarindustri develop and manufacture all their products in Norheimsund, Hardanger.

1950:  During the 1950s Samon Lid received the Agency for Moto Standard. This was the result of a long-term develompent period for two-wheeled tractors.

1979:  Dalen was the first to introduce a two-speed log-splitter. The rapid traverse led to more effi-cient production of firewood, and is currently standard on all such equipment.

1984:  Lid Jarindustri of Norheimsund introduced the first firewood processor for series production. The mother of all their current firewood processors was called the 1254 and series production started in 1984!

1989:  In the late 1980s They launched Their first venture into asymmetric with the 0978.  With this venture, they announced a contest and invited                                                                                                                      their customers to guess who would copy them first!

1997:   In the late 90s they launched the first large tractor-mounted snowblower with an open auger.  Several manufacturers have tried to emulate their success with this principle, but so far with no luck!

2008:  Late in the first decade of the new millen-nium, they launched the first flared integral wing on rear tractor-mounted blade.  This flared wing made it possible to throw snow farther at higher speed.  This feature is now being imitated by their competitors!
The plate hall a-ccommo-dates modern laser cutting equipment. The machine produces parts with high accu-racy.  A large warehouse with a total of five storage shelves allows the machine to run un-attended, all day if necessary, stopping only for normal mainten-ance.  The laser cutting is rounded curves, that give Dalen machines the modern and cutting-edge look.

Lid Jarindustri is one of the very few companies in Norway to have retained a machining department in house.  In this department we find several robotic machining units for turning, drilling, and milling.  These machines are very accurate, provide high-quality..  The customized hardware department ensures that the company retains full-control over what is needed.
