A World Of Opportunities: Capter 5 Tasks

Spring Term Week 13 B Wednesday

Discussion p.221-222

2b+ & c+

Today in class, we had to do some tasks, in the first task we had to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of having a large number of foreign workers in a country

b) Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of having a large number of foreign workers in a country

Advantage: They can contribute to the development of a country

They can help bring new culture

Disadvantage: The country can be overpopulated

Many unemployed

2c+ Discuss what vision you see of the future when it comes to global education and work possibilities

Global education will rise more than it is now people will travel more often than they are doing now, culture will be exchange and people will learn much. As for the work possibilities, I think it will decrease, because of the population will be huge. However, it is actually both ways, for all I know maybe the work possibilities may be better in the future

5 Taking Action

Contact a local company and ask them if they need to use English in their line of businsess. If so, for what purposes? Report back what you learn.

I and some of my classmates contact The Lid Jarnindustri in Dalen, we asked them if they used English in their line of business. They replayed very fast and they told us they used English in their business line to communicate with their other companies and co-workers.

Discussion p.234

3b-d+

3b)The global economy has changed relationships inside the Metha family. Explain why the father is confused and suspicious, the daughter angry and the mother worried.

The global economy has changed relationships inside the Mehta family; the father is confused and surprised over how much things has changed. Her father frowned over his spectacles, grappling ineptly with the fundamentals of modern telecoms. Her mother is worried that she would not be a “good” housewife. The daughter is angry because her parents are not supportive of what she is doing.

C+) The internet has destroyed distance". Discuss this statement and what it will mean for working life in the future.

“The internet has destroyed distance”. This statement clearly means, for example people all over they can do business without even meeting. This can destroy the way people should actually cooperate, to work or do business together is much better to do it in person.

D+) Priti has a job that has been outsourced from Australia to India. Who wins and who loses from outsourcing?

Priti and the company she works for wins, because they got jobs. Those who loses are the ones who do not have jobs and those who for example lives in Australia, who do not have that kind of jobs.
